Yuhuan was once conferred many titles by related departments of superior levels, such as the Advanced County of the Country for Science and Technological Work and the Advanced County of the Country for Science and Technological Progress. Meanwhile it was ranked as the demonstration base of the country for relying on science and education to rejuvenate ocean undertaking, the oceanic hi-tech park of provincial level, and the hi-tech specialty industry base of the provincial level for vehicle fittings. In the same year it registered and implemented technological planning projects including 5 of national level and 54 of provincial level, as well as 6 key provincial technology projects of provincial level. Besides, Yuhuan still obtained 561 authorized patents, 38.5% above that of last year, including 101 patents for invention and 15 authorized patents. Presently Yuhuan has become one of the top 10 enterprises of Zhejiang in application for patent, authorized volume and patent-possession volume per 10000 persons.
Education
As a top county of Zhejiang in education, Yuhuan has reached the educational level of star towns and villages in the city, of which 7 towns and villages are the top towns of the province in education through appraisal. The basic education of 15 years was fundamentally popularized all over the county and the common education and vocational education advanced side by side. The proportion between new students enrolled to its vocational senior high schools and new students to common senior schools had been maintained at 1:1 successively 11 years. It has basically formed the county modern system of national education with local characteristics, which are made up of basic education, vocational education, adult education and local higher education. Sports
As the advanced county of the country for sports and the advanced county of the country for sports and mass sports, in 2006 Yuhuan made success in holding the yatcht (sailboard) race and the teenager women basket matches for the 13th Zhejiang Games and 11th Nationwide Fitness Festival. Of one year the sportsmen from Yuhuan totally won 1 world champion, 2 national titles and 15 gold medals of provincial games, Yuhuan being awarded the prize for outstanding contribution in the provincial games and appraised as the fine arena of such a games. Culture
Yuhuan is rich in historic culture and folk culture of island. In addition to rich folk cultures, Yuhuan still enjoys long historic culture such as the site of Sanhetan Culture, the crater at Shifeng Mountain, the martyr’s tomb of Pan Xinlie, a senior general of No. 13 Corps of Red Army in the Chinese history, and so forth. The rock carving, shell carving and root carving in Yuhuan, named “3 Excellence”, are famous at home and abroad. Its spare literature and art groups including Fisherman Painter Association, Quqiao Literature Society and Photography Association frequently developed activities. In 2006 Yuhuan achieved success in holding such activities as the Entertainment for the 85th Anniversary of the Founding of CPC, 10 Rural Best Singer Grand Prix and Karaoke Grand Prix for New Liudao People. In addition to 7 “Pearl Towns of East-sea Culture” and 199 basic culture clubs, Yuhuan had set up the first reading base of county level for disabled persons, and the learning base of the county for building an honest and clean government. It had 5 items of folk arts including Kanmen Flower Dragon, Dengta Fish Lantern and Door-god Painting listed in the Directory of Taizhou for Representative Works of Immaterial Cultural Heritage. Its programs were separately conferred 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 5 bronze medals in Taizhou Farmer Cultural Festival and 6 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 17 bronze medals in the 3rd Art Festival. In the Taizhou Farmer Cultural Festival Yuhuan also won the title of “Fine Organization”.
Public Health
Yuhuan possesses of nearly 300 medical and public health departments such as “Grade-II Class A” and “Grade-II Class B” comprehensive hospitals, “Grade-II Class A” TCM hospitals, health supervision institution, prevention and control center of diseases, health care hospitals for women and children and health training schools, with 1010 actually applicable beds and 1.5 doctors per 1000 persons. It is complete in hi-tech medical equipment such as magnetic resonance, CT, ultrasonic emulsifier, blood dialyzer and full-automatic biochemical instrument. Yuhuan had intensified management of rural and public health work by setting up and perfecting three-level disease control mechanism, system of health service for women and children and the system of health supervision and law enforcement. Its medical insurance rate reached 79.09%. In rural toilet-reconstruction work, it had 294 villages ranked in the list and passed the acceptance check. Yuhuan is seized of news media including paper, broadcasting and television. “Yuhuan for Today”, a color paper of 8 pages, contains news for current affairs at home and abroad, and etc. Its broadcasting and TV turn-on rate came up to 100%. In August 2006 Yuhuan became one of the first sub-branches for online news website of Zhejiang, with the title of the “2006 Fine Sub-branch of Zhejiang Online News Website”.
Urban Civilization
In order to keep the achievements obtained in building up the civilized city of provincial level, Yuhuan vigorously implemented the project of improving civilization by taking an active part in resisting arrangements for the weddings and funeral lavishly. In addition to editing the “Follow Me for Classics” and produce the webpage, it launched the activity for reading of “Tao-te Ching of Laozi” in more than 100 schools, being awarded the prize of 2006 for innovation of propaganda and ideological work.
